All praise be to Ogu-yansan! Jaques is a product of the bayou, and fell into the local Sect of the Cottonmouth, a cult of Ogu-yansan, an avatar of Hastur the Unspeakable (unbeknownst to Jaques). The cult is relatively harmless, although some members have recently uncovered ancient tomes containing rituals that could actually summon Ogu-yansan. There is some debate in the cult over the summoning, but not whether to do it, but what to request of Ogu-yansan when he appears. The cult members meet in a humfor in the bayou, some miles southeast of New Orleans. The ritual of summoning requires an artifact, which Jaques has found in town, but it is very expensive and beyond the reach of any or all of the cult members.

Jaques moved into the city to improve his lot in life, at least marginally, and he found the perfect job working for Mona the Mojo Queen. Jaques has a good knowledge of voodoo, works very hard, and better still has a car in which he can make deliveries (one of the reasons Mona hired him on the spot). Jaques has also rented an apartment above the shop from Mona, although he visits his parents in the bayou regularly (when he also visits his fellow cultists).
