Special Needs Sponsor Machiko Tomita

A special needs sponsorship for Barnaby was a birthday present for Machiko Tomita. She loves ferrets and her family has one.

Barnaby was named after Barnaby A. Ferret, a cartoon creation of Melissa Taylor -- you can find Barnaby's image throughout the CFN web pages. Barnaby the real ferret has been with the CFN for a long time and is definately a senior ferret now (he holds the honored position at the top of the adoption page as being the the longest resident at CFN), who lives in comfort in his long time foster home.

Barnaby and Bartholomew arrived in February at 1.5 years of age from the Cowlitz County Humane Society. They had been relinquished by their owners. They liked playing with other ferrets and should have been easy to find a home for, but Barnaby had bad manners and would play too rough with people, with lots of other choices for adoption, they were passed over again and again until they entered the middle-aged ferret category, making it even less likely that they would find a home. They are lucky to be in a foster home where they get a lot more attention than they would at the shelter. Bartholomew died toward the end of June 2007 after months of chemotherapy for lymphoma.
