Zella
December 14, 2004

Zella is sponsored by Laura Satterfield. Laura volunteered at CFN in the past, but now lives in North Dakota. She got to know Zella when she worked here and decided to ask for a ferret to sponsor as a Christmas gift. Laura is also the sponsor of Lindsey and her mother is Ricochet's sponsor.

Zella arrived at CFN near the end of 2001. She was 3.5 years old and had been used as a breeder. She had fleas and ear mites upon her arrival. We soon suspected she was deaf and found that she had not been socialized and was capable of biting very hard if she got the chance. Zella also does not have any social skills with other ferrets so she has to have separate play sessions. She entertains herself quite well and has turned into a very happy well adjusted ferret despite all he "baggage". She was spayed in early 2002. Earlier this year she underwent surgery for insulinoma and since her anal glands would regularly become impacted, she was also descented. She recovered from the surgery fine, but was back to having hypoglycemic episodes soon after and had to placed back on medication. She is currently on 0.25cc of strong prednisone twice each day and 0.6cc Diazoxide (a very expensive medication) twice per day along with supplimental feedings of a/d soup. She is still very fiesty and knows how to have a good time, and she is now quite happy to play gently with her human playmates.
