Mulberry House

In February of 2006 we purchased a small house in Ladd's Addition on Mulberry Avenue. The house was originally built in 1946, and while it needed work, and lacked some of the character of its neighbors, we thought it had potential, and the location was perfect.

Our first order of business was to conduct a general remodel of the house and back yard to make the place more weather tight, improve the floor plan slightly, and add off street parking.

After the remodel was complete, we added a storage shed in the back yard, built to look like a smaller version of the house, and then turned out attention to the landscaping, which had suffered from a lack of imagination, forethought, or even common sense over the past few decades.

It was just as well that our first priority for the house was weatherizing, because December of 2008 and January of 2009 saw record snowfall in Portland: both in the quantity and the number of times it snowed.

In February of 2009 we decided to remodel the kitchen, which was virtually non functional as we inherited it.
